Talent Professor Case Stu

Case Study 1

Diane was re-entering the work force after 27 years as a stay at home wife.  She recently experienced a divorce and was  determined to maintain your lifestyle.  She wants a benefits plan like what she has been provided the last 27 years, most importantly she did not want to work weekends, and did not want a position that would consume her time.

Her Employment Specialist met with her for the initial consultation, taking a holistic approach they defined her skills after 27 years of unemployment, defined what she did when she was working and what type of work she did as a stay at home wife, etc. did she volunteer anywhere?, if so, what type of volunteer work?, etc. In the end, Diane and her Employment Specialists agreed on the following:

She would seek employment in the city or state government sector (i.e. school districts, city hall and state government offices.  Their reasoning: since she was so stringent on what she wanted to do and considering her age at the time, they felt that she would be most successful in this sector.

Her resume was reworked for the types of positions she would be applying for. The first place Diane applied was with the School District.  The position was interim, and she would be conducting testing throughout the district, there was no weekend work involved and the benefit package matched hers.

Diane participated in interview workshops, which was important since she had not worked in 27 years.  Her employment specialists conducted several mock interviews to ensure that she was ready for the interview process.
Her employment specialist worked with her, assisting her in identifying job opportunities within the area, conducting research on potential employers and planning her job search out on a weekly basis.

RESULTS
: Diane obtained an interview with the School District and was offered the position as the Interim Test Giver, after 2 1/2 months of looking for employment. The position met most of her requirements for employment and Diane is gainfully employed today.

"After 27 years of not working I was very nervous about re-entering the workplace.  My employment specialist made be feel at ease and really worked with me to ensure that not only was my resume package competitive, I was competitive.  We worked on my interviewing style, my resume package was outstanding, (I received a lot of compliments from hiring managers) and before I knew it I was gainfully employed.  Thank you Talent Professor, I appreciate your hard work and dedication to identify  the jobs that best fit my lifestyle. I would recommend the Talent Professor to anyone in a career transition!"  Diane B.
